It’s Saint Patrick’s day and this week the lesson that we have is Merry Christmas… no! it’s Saint Patrick’s Day. We’re going to learn some new vocabulary, some excellent expressions from Ireland that will get you speaking now. St Patrick’s Day is growing around the world and it’s really important here in the northwest of Spain as many people here are Celtic in blood. Aly, are you Celtic by any chance but yes I am proud to say so I’m so a struggle.
Well done, well done so in this week’s video we’ll be looking at some of the vocabulary, a little bit of the idioms and collocations and the passive voice. Oh great! so there’s a fantastic lineup that we have in the lesson.
- Now the first one we’re looking at Ally is craic. Do you know what craic means Ally? um a drug. No, they do not celebrate drugs in
Ireland. Now craic means a joyous or fun occasion so you’re having a great yes a fun time. D-man a fun time with your friends so you say: what’s the craic! oh did you we’re going to have a great craic with our friends tonight. - perfect so the next word we’ll be looking at is Sláinte. okay so that means cheers! oh cheers yeah when you’re with a dream with your friends toasting so maybe we can say it all together.
Now it’s time for us to look at some of our idioms and collocations.
- So the first one we’re looking at is a wet week and it means a miserable time so yes a wet week. How was your week? uh was it a wet week. No the weather for the most part was wonderful okay so it was fantastic oh Grand.
- which is the next word? the next one is grand. Grand means to be fantastic, amazing and many Irish people use it often when they’re speaking. How are you Ali? Grand! thanks for asking.
What’s in the grammar this week? So the grammar this week is the passive voice. We use the passive voice when we want to identify the what has happened the action and not who did it so for example when we say we will celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day. We can say Saint Patrick’s day will be celebrated. Well done!
Oh thank you so much thank you so much so thank you so much for watching the video we hope you have a wonderful week. A wonderful Saint Patrick’s lesson from me Brent-
Have a great week have a fantastic St Patrick’s Day have a great craic and we’ll see you in the lesson
