Do you use the telephone? then telephone week is just for you!!
Hey Fast Pass method students. Our lesson this week is telephone week. Now using the telephone is really important in particular at business English because having the possibility to speak to someone and communicate over the telephone can be very frightening because you can’t see the person and the only thing you’re doing is listening to their voice. So having the ability to remain calm and understand the process is really important in a telephone conversation and so this week our topic on our platform is telephone week.
Now the Fast Pass Method has been designed to be able to make you speak and communicate and using what you have learned and putting it into practice with telephone week will be really important. We will be looking at new vocabulary, some fantastic expressions and also some collocations, some sentences that you can use when you’re speaking on the telephone and this will convey a lot of information in one sentence and that is what communication is about expressing yourself very clearly so that the other person can understand you.
Now our grammar topic this week is about word formation. Word formation is also very important as we attempt to increase your vocabulary so that when you speak you have new wonderful vocabulary to use in your conversation and in your communication.
This week also remember we’re going to Madrid and to see Sonia with Fast Pass Español to find out what is in the class this week and we will be going to Adriana with our podcast to see what we have in our podcast this week.
Now over to the word formation video so we can learn how to create our vocabulary.
This week in Fast Pass method by Brent English we’re looking at word formation, in particular adding suffixes. You can form verbs nouns adjectives and adverbs from other related or base words by adding a suffix to the end of the Word. There is no clear rules. Each word and the words which can be formed from it must be learnt individually. Here are a few examples:
The suffix –ment with the verb adjust forms the noun adjustment.
The suffix -ness with the adjective friendly forms the noun friendliness
The suffix –ish with the noun child forms the adjective childish
The suffix –ship with the noun partner forms the noun partnership
There are many more to look at and during the week you will be going over them with your teachers.
